Black & White Personality

Black and white portraits can be as classic or as modern as you would like! The results will depend on many factors including not only the posing, but also what your child wears for their portraits. Black and white heirloom style portraits have been around for generations and many of us have seen them hanging in the homes of our grandparents. I am so excited to offer these photos as a nod to the past while you pick your style - classic traditional, or with a modern edge.

As these portraits are meant to be displayed in your home, Katie will work with you to customize your artwork depending on your personal style and needs. There are many options when it comes to printing - large wood prints, acrylic frames, and gallery arrangements for a modern take on traditional portraits.

Black & white heirloom - $175

Includes about 15 minutes of shooting time.

3 images per child

Children must be sitting independently for these portraits. (Usually at least 9 months old at the time of session).

individual ADD-ON - $75

During your session, you may add-on a session for a sibling at a discounted rate.

Includes about 15 minutes of shooting time and 3 digital images

SIBLING GROUP SHOT add-on - $75

You may also choose to add-on a group shot of all siblings together.

This includes up to 15 additional minutes of shooting time and one final image.

This option can be added on at the time of your session.

Portrait rates are all-inclusive which means the session fee, professional retouching, and image files for printing and sharing are all included in one price. While I do offer high quality heirloom prints and products through your online gallery, you are not obligated to purchase anything outside of the fees listed below. 

Pre-session consultation (via phone or email) on styling, location, and your vision for the session IS INCLUDED WITH ALL SESSIONS. I’M HAPPY TO HELP YOU DEVELOP A COLOR SCHEME, CHOOSE THE BEST COORDINATING ACCESSORIES, ETC. JUST ASK!

*LOCATION OF YOUR CHOICE: If you have a specific location in mind, let me know! If you’re unsure, I can recommend some of my favorite spots based on the time of day and weather. (Note that some places require fees or permits for professional photography)

a Facebook or Instagram preview within 48 hours of session is included (if requested* your privacy is important to me, if you wish for your photos to be kept private they will not be posted online).

Full payment is due before or at the time of the session. AN invoice will be sent UPON booking for A retainer of half the FINAL amount to reserve YOUR date and time of session. Payment options include cash or credit card.

If you’ve never had a session with me before, you may be wondering, what happens after I book? Take a look at some frequently asked questions below.

when & where?

There are lots of great locations in the Louisville area for photo shoots. Most of my sessions take place at local parks, farms, walking trails, and sometimes even urban areas downtown . If you have a specific location in mind, let me know! If you’re unsure, I can recommend some of my favorite spots based on the time of day and weather. (Note that some places require fees or permits for professional photography.)

I shoot mostly on weekday and weekend evenings, though I love the occasional early morning weekend session too! As a mom, I understand kids can get fussy too close to bedtime, so morning sessions are a nice alternative when the evening golden hour isn’t feasible. Try your best to arrive a little early. It always helps sessions go smoothly if you and your family members are not feeling stressed or rushed! This will give you time to find parking, fix hair and outfits, and take a few deep breaths before we get started.

what should i bring?

For the littles ones, bring along some non-messy snacks like fruit snacks or mini marshmallows for times when I give the kids a little break — or for rewards. Also, wipes come in handy for a lot - muddy hands, runny noses, and baby spit up. If your child has a favorite toy, lovey, or book, bring that too!

Consider packing a brush, lip gloss, backup clothes, and bug spray.

What to wear?

The key to looking timeless as a family or couple is to coordinate your clothing choices, but not match them. You should complement each other in terms of color - and selecting a color theme is one of the best ways to accomplish this easily. I often suggest choosing one or two colors to carry through each person's outfit with complementary colors and neutrals to complete each look.

LAYERS, ACCESSORIES, & SHOES

Layering and using accessories are very important. Adding a scarf, a knit cardigan, hat, or stylish jewelry is one of the best ways to add color, individuality, and interest to your portrait. Don't forget about what goes on your feet! Shoes are a great way to add style and personality to your overall look.

PATTERNS & TEXTURES ARE OKAY!

There's nothing wrong with wearing patterns and stripes. Just make sure they go with the color theme you select and include plenty of neutrals to carry them through. Pair small patterns or big stripes with some textured pieces and you're set! Textures in particular add an incredible amount of visual interest to pictures and look especially great in black and white.

what about the weather?

Kentucky weather can be tricky! We will be in touch in the days leading up to your session if rain or any other extreme weather is forecasted to ruin our plans. Rain will result in a reschedule. In the event that a reschedule is not possible, we will make every effort to locate a suitable covered or indoor location to accommodate your session.

What happens after our session?

I will ask you if you would like to see a sneak peek on instagram/facebook after our session. If yes, then look for it usually within a day or two! You’re welcome to tag and share these photos! Approximately 1-2 weeks after your session, you'll receive an email from me with a link to your password-protected online gallery.  The full-resolution jpg files can be downloaded directly from the gallery and additional prints and products can be purchased through my professional (and highly recommended!) lab.
