Mommy and Me

"...and she loved a little boy very, very much - even more than she loved herself," - from "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein

There is nothing quite like the bond between a mother and her child.  As a mom of two little girls I know a little something about this but as I observed these two during my first ‘Mommy & Me’ session of the year, I was inspired by how darn special it really is.

This mom reached out to me about taking some photos of her youngest son.  It had been a rough year and this mom said that, between the hard stuff and an older (but still young) child at home, she worried she might miss the opportunity to capture this season of life with her little boy.  She said when her daughter was this age it seemed easier to grab meaningful photos.

I think this is a familiar feeling for moms, especially after a new baby enters the world.  For the first few months (or more), we are just trying to keep our heads above water.  To keep our little humans alive!  And this is when photography can be so powerful.  Photography can stop time!  Then when we come up for air and wonder if we ‘missed’ moments, we can go back and look at our photographs.  We can see the bond, the awe, and the love.  We can reminisce about the time at the park when the little boy with pudgy fingers played with his favorite truck.  We can remember the morning he crawled into our lap for a snuggle under the tree.  We can let the photography warm and assure us that yes, we really were there.
